I was lookin’ from out the darkness, on a wilderness so deep,
And I came upon a clearing and a light was all that I could see.
And I saw a house upon a hill, a mansion actually,
It was a sturdy place and a warm place, and that’s all my weary eyes could see.
And a group of people gathered, maybe ten, maybe more.
Yeah they lined up in a single-file, and they walked thru the small narrow, door.
Oh I’m a ladder builder, I’ll build it up to the sky,
and I’ll climb it up to heaven, but I’ve still got my pride.
Yeah I’m a ladder builder, I’ll carry my own sin,
Right on up to the door of heaven and I’ll knock…but that won’t get me in.
As I was standin’ I heard an awful noise, and came from out the trees,
Was a crowd of angry people, and as big as a great roarin’ of seas.
Well some they carried ladders and they were workin’ as a team,
And some of them were weepin, yeah and some…well, they looked pretty mean.
